On Monday 7 October, Forum Strategy held the first of three planned Autumn #TrustLeaders Roundtable events, chaired by the former Secretary of State for Education and Skills, Baroness Estelle Morris; and Forum Strategy’s CEO, Alice Gregson. Our Autumn roundtables focus on three key priority areas – accountability reform, recruitment and retention, and curriculum – and bring a number of our members together to seek to understand what underlies many of the key issues, to present potential ideas and solutions relating to the topic areas, and to signpost – where possible – to existing best and impactful practice already taking place across the system.
This first roundtable focused on accountability; and was attended by a group of members from across our three national trust leaders networks (for CEOs, COOs and Education Executives). The discussion during the roundtable event focused on the following fundamental questions:
- What are the key guiding principles that should underpin the accountability system in England?
- What should a balanced scorecard look like? How can it ensure a culture of wellbeing and retention, as well as ensure high standards of accountability?
- What principles should underpin the inspection of multi-academy trusts? How can inspection of trusts be fit for purpose and avoid the mistakes of previous frameworks for schools?
- What can trusts and trust leaders do to generate a culture of local, formative accountability to communities that acts as a balance to national summative models? How can trusts be supported and encouraged by government in that?
The full report can be accessed below by members of Forum Strategy’s national CEO, COO and Education Executives networks.
