As a new academic year begins with much hope and opportunity ahead, as well as plenty of continuing challenges to address, we thought it would be helpful to share some key articles, resources and a few opportunities too as you plan for the year ahead.
National Education Executives Network Meetings
There will be two Education Executive national network meetings in the Autumn term; the first online in September and the second, in-person at Colwick Hall, Nottingham. Our network meetings will be chaired by Frank Norris MBE and offer a great opportunity to receive timely updates on the national education landscape – including key and essential policy developments, hear from guest expert speakers on school improvement and education issues, share your own priorities and challenges and connect with network members across the country. To attend, you will need to register your place using the links below:
26th September: Education Executives Online Network Meeting
7th November: Education Executives Network Meeting, Colwick Hall
Improvement at Scale: Access our Hub
We know that continuous improvement remains a priority for you as Education Executives and you will be thinking ahead to how this is driven forward across your trusts for this coming academic year and beyond. Our improvement at scale hub, brings together our wide range of resources, developed over a number of years, drawing on education experts as well as cross-sector perspectives: Improvement at Scale Hub I Forum Strategy
Accountability
Discussions around accountability reform are very much live and ongoing and we will likely see some significant changes in this space in future. Meanwhile, there are still significant elements around accountability that should be trust driven (alongside the national landscape) and is within your control as trust leaders to shape. Our ‘Pure Accountability: In Practice Guide’ offers reflections and suggestions around how trust leaders can help to shape a more meaningful approach to accountability. Alongside this, network chair Frank Norris, wrote this article for us earlier this year around we can reshape our view of impact and accountability through generating contextual wisdom: How contextual wisdom helps us to reshape our view of impact and accountability I Forum Strategy
Addressing attendance
We know that issues surrounding attendance continue to pervade many schools and trusts and that addressing this meaningfully, is a priority for most. Michael Gooch, Forum Strategy Associate, has written three articles for us with some useful reflections within each for trust leaders:

Opportunity to undertake mentoring with Debbie Clinton
Mentoring offers the opportunity to learn from someone with huge amounts of experience and to access their knowledge and expertise in particular areas of interest. This differs to executive coaching which (on the most part) is less about someone sharing their experience and knowledge but more self-directed by the client and involves expert questioning techniques to develop thinking. As a former trust CEO and HMI, Debbie offers vast amounts of experience to draw upon, particularly in the areas of trust-wide improvement and accountability. This is offered as an additional ‘paid-for service’ for Forum Strategy Education Executives members – please contact Alice Gregson at alice.gregson@forumstrategy.org if you would like to find out more.
Dates for your diary (in addition to the network meetings)
We have a number of events coming up over the Autumn term you may wish to sign up to (if you haven’t already) and/or save in your diary:
Remember, you can always keep up to speed with upcoming events through Forum Strategy on this webpage: Events page I Forum Strategy
We hope sharing this selection of events and resources is helpful and look forward to working with you in the weeks and months ahead.
