National #TrustLeaders COO Network

28 November 2023 @ 9:30 am - 12:00 pm

How as a COO do you continue to stay strategic, looking ahead to the challenges and opportunities for this academic year and beyond? As you grow and develop as a trust, how will you continue to help to develop a trust culture of inclusivity, belonging and high performance? Where do some of the key risks and issues currently appear to lie around compliance in the sector?  Join our next national COO network meeting to consider and discuss these questions and more.

Building on our focus from September’s national COO conference (exploring the habits and disciplines of effective COOs) we will begin this term’s COO network with a strategic update from Forum’s CEO, Alice Gregson. Alice will outline the key themes and priorities for trusts nationally. We will then hear from Simon Phillips, COO at Macmillan Cancer Support, who will reflect on the role of COO from a cross sector perspective, exploring some of the strategic themes touched on at the start of the network session and sharing his practice and perspective from several years as COO.

After this, we will be joined by Nic Ponsford, CEO of the Global Equality Collective (the GEC) who will share her insights and experience around building belonging, inclusivity and a high-performance culture in trusts and her thoughts around the essential role of COOs in driving this forward. Our penultimate session will be an input from Graham Shaw, Consultant at Wrigleys Solicitors, who will outline his analysis of key findings and learning for COOs around recent national reports of issues and areas of non-compliance in some trusts, helping us to anticipate those areas and help ensure we stay on the right track where a number of others have failed.

We will then finish on a short session picking up the key theme from the COO conference around maintaining wellbeing and peer support as COOs.

The session will provide up to the minute strategic insight; reflection; discussion and the opportunity to connect with peer COOs – all guided by leading thinkers. In this session we want to give you the space and support to reflect on how you approach these ever-testing times.
