Chairs of Trustees: Roundtable with Public First

13 July 2023 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

We know there are many conversations quite rightly being had across England around our current accountability measures – whether they are fit for purpose, and how they will likely need to change, quite significantly, in future.  As Chairs of Trustees, your voice within this is really key. We are therefore offering this opportunity to join a roundtable run by Public First in July, in replacement of our usual termly complimentary Chairs of Trustees seminar – we know this is work that Chairs will value being a part of. Further details are outlined below and you can sign up in the usual way through this webpage – places will be limited to a maximum of 16 and therefore allocated on a first booked basis.

About the roundtables
Public First is currently undertaking research looking at the purpose of schools and the accountability system, thinking particularly about schools in deprived communities. The research, delivered in collaboration with the Laidlaw Foundation, aims to examine whether the current focus of our external accountability measures (Ofsted, league tables and performance measures) on academic outcomes is best serving our pupils. Public First are keen to consider how we can create a system which encourages schools to be as focused on producing the happy and healthy citizens of tomorrow, as much as on ensuring pupils also achieve well academically.

Public First are keen to speak to trustees about this project and to draw upon your wealth of experience across different schools. Their particular areas of interest which they would like to hear views on are around:

– Your experience of the schools accountability system – where it works and where it doesn’t
– How we can best serve our pupils, across all schools, to become happy and healthy citizens of the future
– What you think good, productive accountability looks like

We would welcome Chairs of Trustees who are interested in engaging with this discussion to join a 1.5 hour roundtable event on 13th of July, 4-5.30pm (online). Quotations from the roundtable may be used in Public First’s final report however, individuals will be anonymised. If you have any questions about the research in advance of the event, please do contact sally.burtonshaw@publicfirst.co.uk
