Keeping trusts and schools on the ‘front foot’ as pandemic potentially becomes endemic

Nearly two years have passed since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic when the world was thrown into the unknown. Since March 2020, we have learned a lot about the virus and its long-term effects, and we have gradually learned to adapt and create new procedures to keep staff and pupils safe. Whilst at present more staff are absent than at any other time during the pandemic, we are predicting a better 2022 for staff health – but with the caveat that the effects of Long Covid are becoming more prevalent, with a fivefold increase reported during the last term of 2021. 

With government guidance recently reducing the isolation period after a positive test from 10 to 5 days, trusts are facing ever changing direction. However, while guidance has and will continue to change, there are key practices that academy trusts can keep in place to prevent the spread of COVID and protect the trust-wide community.
