SUMMARY:Members' Discussion Forum: The vital role of Headteachers in trusts - how the trust model helps to retain\, develop & support Heads
DESCRIPTION:In this report from Headrest (the organisation working to support Headteacher’s wellbeing) in 2023\, the scale and magnitude of the deterioration of Headteachers’ wellbeing was made clear. With growing accountability pressures\, dealing with ongoing post-pandemic issues and pressures on budgets and resources\, Heads are feeling the strain. However\, we also know\, that when done well\, the academy trust model can offer support and a way to distribute the pressures so that Heads can not only survive\, but fully thrive and this is critical if we are to ensure we are able to retain and develop our Heads effectively. \nIn this members’ discussion\, we will explore how the trust model can support Headteacher retention\, wellbeing and development in a meaningful way\, recognising the integral role they have within a trust. David Horn\, former CEO of the Beckfoot Trust and Forum Strategy Associate\, recently wrote this article within which he emphasises the importance of Heads and how trusts can engage with and include them in a valuable way. David will join us for this session to delve further into some of those aspects and more. We will also be joined by Rebecca Daulman\, CEO of Agora Learning Partnership\, who will add to David’s insights by detailing the valuable work that goes on across their trust to support\, develop and retain their Heads and how they ensure the trust model is fully inclusive of and engaged with Heads across the trust.
